Activities at the Department:


Research activities

Studies on the sperm of the wels catfish (Silurus glanis) and the pikeperch (Sander lucioperca). In the wels catfish, development of a technology for the cryopreservation of sperm in large volumes (5-ml straws) that can be used in hatcheries for the fertilization of commercial quantities of eggs (150-300 g) with a single straw. Fertilization and hatch rates with this technology are identical to the traditional methods of fertilization. Studies are carried out on the survival and development of non-feeding and feeding larvae. Differences in parameters of the cryopreservation process are tested in order to improve the existing methods. Other investigations are carried out as a supplement to cryopreservation. Cryopreservation of pikeperch sperm for the first time in the world.

As the Head of the Management and Administration group of the Department my basic tasks include the followings: coordination of
-    PR and marketing image of the Department
-    Programs on the Department (Football championship for fishermen, professional programs, fish sales etc.)

-    Practical education of students.
